Getting from ATH airport to Athens city Centre
Metro
The Athens Metro provides a direct link from Athens International Airport to central Athens. Line 3 (Blue Line) reaches key stops such as Syntagma Square and Monastiraki in about 40 minutes. Trains run approximately every 30 minutes, with more frequent service during peak hours. Tickets can be purchased from machines with English-language options.
Bus
Public buses operated by OASA connect the airport with different parts of the city. The X95 line is the most used service for travelers, running directly to Syntagma Square. Bus services operate 24/7, with frequency varying by schedule.
Suburban Railway
The Proastiakos also connects the airport with central Athens and surrounding areas. Travel time to the city center is around 40 minutes, with trains running every 15–25 minutes depending on the time of day.
Taxi
Taxis are available outside the arrivals area at the airport. A trip to the city center usually takes 30–40 minutes depending on traffic, with fares typically ranging from €35 to €50 depending on the destination and time of day.

International Trains
If you are travelling from abroad, you can reach Athens by international train services. Several European destinations offer direct or connecting routes to the city, including Bulgaria, Bucharest, Serbia, and Turkey. These trains typically arrive at Athens Railway Station (Larissa Station), one of the main rail hubs in the city.
Domestic Trains:
Greece’s national rail network, operated by TrainOSE, connects Athens with major cities such as Thessaloniki, Patras, and Larissa.
Getting from the Train Station to the City Centre
Larissa Station is located slightly outside central Athens, but it is well connected to the rest of the city. From here, you can reach the center using the Athens Metro, the suburban railway (Proastiakos), or local bus services. Taxis are also readily available outside the station for a quicker and more direct transfer into the city.
Greece has a modern and well-connected road system, making Athens easily reachable via highways from multiple directions. The main motorway routes leading into Athens include:
E75 from the north (Thessaloniki)
E65 from the west (Patras)
E94 from the southwest (Tripoli)
E94 from the east (Lamia)
E96 from the southeast (Sounio)
Athens offers a well-organized public transport network that includes buses, trams, the metro, and the suburban railway (Proastiakos).
Tickets for all transport modes are available at metro stations, ticket machines, ticket offices, and selected kiosks. Passengers can choose from several fare options, such as single-journey tickets, daily passes, and multi-day travel cards. Discounted fares are also available for eligible groups, including students, seniors, and others.
